Ayurveda vs Allopathy

Ayurveda attacks the root cause of disease while Alllopathy suppresses the symptoms only

Ayurveda aims to ELIMINATE THE ROOT CAUSE of a disease so that it is not able to pop up again and again in the body. While allopathic medicine tends to focus on the management of SYMPTOMS ONLY.  They use symptomatic medicines only. But Ayurveda provides us with the knowledge of prevention of a disease and eliminates its root cause if it does occur.
For example- If we are suffering with pain, allopath will prescribe pain killer for immediate relief but forget that pain is response for the disturbed metabolism in concerned system. We should try to cure the underlying cause first. Pain killer will just mask the pain not cure from inside.
No doubt, antibiotics are of great importance. They kill the bacteria in the body. Many times useful healthy gut bacteria get destroyed. As a result, health of intestines gets altered. Poor assimilation of nutrients leads to poor health. Such treatments make our body weaker and more prone to other diseases. But Ayurveda stresses upon detoxification of body followed by ras-rasayana to provide nourishment as well. It aims to remove the deep seated toxins in the body and cleanses the micro-circulatory channels of circulation. Thus, providing the nourishment to weak body and prevents the disease from popping up again and again.

Allopathy provides immediate relief to our body but Ayurveda provides long lasting relief.
Let’s discuss the approach towards fever.
Allopath will give anti-pyretic to subside high temperature. After that, few antibiotics, anti-virals etc are prescribed to kill the pathogens. Now, if we give a deep thought, our body becomes a war field where antibiotics fight germs. Our body will be harmed sooner or later. Tissues had been destroyed. It will definitely lead to weakness.
But, in fever, ayurveda emphasizes on enhancing the immunity of body so that cells can be strong enough to fight the adverse situations in the body.
We should keep in mind that any bacteria, virus or pathogens needs a suitable base for its growth and we provide that base/that atmosphere. Rather we can say we invite them. But if we keep our body/systems strong enough, we can avoid their entry.
Same is the case with other systemic diseases, if we keep our systems clean and strong by detoxification and rejuvenation time to time, we can again avoid the disease.
Practically, it has been found in case of PYREXIA OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN, when no allopathic medicine works. No significant pathological lab reports are found. But, still, patient complains of fever or malaise. When we prescribe giloy satva (Rasayana), patient improves significantly. Treatment is followed by ras-rasayana to support the weak body.

Ayurveda attacks the cause but allopathy manages the symptoms with medicine only.
Modern science has given great contribution to society; we can not deny this fact. But, our body is getting weaker day by day as we are becoming reservoir for harmful toxins produced by chemicals used in medicine. These toxins will definitely give rise to new diseases. So, ayurveda aims to detoxify the body. Thus prevents the diseases in future.

Ethical regimen (Sadavritta)

It comes from two words “Sadd” which means good and “vritta” which means solution. It is an all-around science that promotes the total harmony of the body system where people socialize and live. Ayurveda emphasizes on keeping a healthy lifestyle and an ideal living situation to prevent imbalances that are created within the body and the environment, thus, enabling homeostasis in the body. A person has to follow a good schedule and a healthy lifestyle which does not only help in building a better person but also a better society.
A person who behaves nicely is more divine for God and lives a more fruitful life. If a person will follow the rules of saddvritta, he would achieve a healthier and a longer life. He can even escape the cycle of life or death. Practicing them gives balance and peace to the mind. Mind has a strong relation with Tridosha balance and thereby health. Developing a good behavior and personality brings light in life since it promotes a better health and relationship among one’s family and friends. Ignoring the principles makes a person agitated.

Why should we opt for Ayurveda?

Ayurveda, as an alternative system of medicine, is gaining recognition at the international level. Many people from outside India are fascinated with this holistic system of medicine. Ayurveda is a pure natural. It strongly believes that we are part of nature and nature has core ability to treat us. It is the only method of achieving complete wellness. Ayurveda targets the root cause of a disease not just on the symptoms of the disease. It provides different ways to maintain the health of a healthy individual. Yoga, daily regimens (Din charya), Seasonal regimens (Ritu charya) and Pathya –Apathya are mentioned to improve living standards. It takes longer time to cure but bears no side effects. The negative side is allopathy treatment is that it may cause side effects like hair loss, weak health, allergies and many more. No such side effects have been reported yet with Ayurveda. Most importantly Ayurveda prevents the recurrence of the diseases. The ancient system of medicine believes that detoxification of body as primary part of treatment. Purification/ detoxification can be done through panchkarma procedures. But modern medicine suppresses the signs and symptoms of the disease only. Moreover, Ayurveda treats patient and disease both while allopathy concentrates on the disease only. According to Ayurveda, diseases are mainly caused by vitiation of doshas, accumulation of ama and ojas kshaya. It believes that pacifying the doshas eliminates the diseases out of the body. Moreover, one can prevent the recurrence of the disease by preventing the accumulation of ama. We can say that AYURVEDA is a complete health package whether it is physical, psychological, spiritual, economical and social wellness. Preferably, we should opt for this alternative system of medicine.

Three vital essence of life

Summarize three main ingredients of vitality (Three vital essence of life)
Ojas, Tejas and Prana is three vital essence of human life. We cannot think of life without their proper co-ordination in the body. They are the mandatory components of a life to sustain.
Ojas - Ojas is vital essence in every cell. It is created at the birth of the tissue and every tissue has the ability to make ojas. If a person has a healthy skin & flesh, it signifies good amount of ojas and resistance to disease. Ojas can be seen in all aspects of the body. Ojas brings mental stability and peace of mind. Strong fertility is a sign of healthy ojas. Food that is high in ojas also feeds the genital organs too. Foods that build ojas in body include clarified butter, rice, milk, sugar and almonds. Ojas can be depleted in body by lack of self care, sense of insecurity, over-exertion and unusual weight loss. Ojas also depends on the strength of one’s agni (digestive fire), if it is compromised, then the amount of ojas will be depleted as the nourishment will be reduced. When there is a healthy deposits of ojas, the immunity is maintained and the body is capable of fighting disease. Ojas is required for healthy body and mind.
Tejas –Tejas means fire and radiance in body. It is the intelligence of our body and mind. It directs the use of energy, including thoughts, digestion, immunity and all kinds of metabolic activities. A healthy level of tejas can be seen in one’s clarity of mind, insight, courage and compassion. Tejas in our body deals with the hormones and other chemical messengers. It controls metabolism at cellular level. When this natural intelligence of body (to secrete hormones, chemicals, digestive juices, amino acids etc) becomes occluded due to injury or toxicity then tejas can be blocked. Tejas brings radiance, glow, aura and luster in one’s eye.
Prana - Prana is the vital life force or life breath and is the subtle essence of vata or air element.  Prana is the usable energy directed by tejas and provisioned by ojas. It can be compared to oxygen flow in the body. Oxygen is also form of prana because oxygen helps us convert food into energy. The heart is the seat of prana from where it is distributed in whole body and spread vitality in body. The reserves of prana can be increased by performing pranayam which leads to good health of mind and body.
Negative thinking depletes ojas, tejas and prana in body. So, we should develop positive approach in our life to be healthy. Being honest with our feelings and emotions help to build up and maintain ojas, tejas and prana.
Maintenance of ojas requires conservation of your vital energy (prana), as well as a healthy metabolism (tejas) to refine the quality of your fluids and tissues. All three are interlinked with each other. Ojas is the potential, stamina of mind and nervous system and it can hold tejas and prana.

Basic principles of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a science which considers health in all aspects of physical, mental, spiritual and social well being. Only physical health does not account for your overall well being. When we talk of our growth, it emphasizes on physical, mental, spiritual and social growth as well. When we move on in life, all these aspects play collaborative role and support our health.
Whenever we are suffering from a disease, we should focus on our inner self. Cause behind every disease lies in our body only. First, consider diet and lifestyle, something is definitely disturbed which leads to the imbalance of the basic energies (vata, pitta and kapha). If we really want to rectify, always quit the positive causative factor. It is the basic principle lying behind the treatment of any kind of disease.
When we begin with treatment, our main focus should be on intestine. It is the first line of defense in the body. Food we consume is assimilated in the body through the villi present in intestine. So, food and health are directly proportional. If we consume healthy food, our body will be nourished well. An unhealthy food leads to the accumulation of toxins in the intestine which will give rise to diseases in future. Thus, it is our main concern to keep our intestine clean. Thus, we should follow healthy diet including both food items and herbs which strengthen and help to detoxify.
Everybody is going through immense stressful life. No body has sufficient time for proper breakfast, lunch and dinner. Skipping the breakfast is regular routine. All these factors contribute to lack of required nutrients in the body and leads to early aging even.
If we add certain herbs along with regular meals, we can replenish lost nutrients in natural way. Herbs like ashwagandha (strengthens the body), dalchini (lowers cholesterol), hing (maintain the digestion), brahmi (boosts mental power) and jatmansi (strengthens nervous system) are really good. Various rasayanas like chavanprash (boosts immunity), trifla (cleanses intestine) and trikatu (boosts metabolism) are very beneficial to promote well being.
Along with this, we should follow pranayama in daily routine to induce prana (divine energy) in body. It boosts circulation and let oxygen reach minute cells of the body.
Conclusion – Our nature and herbs are full of energy, we should make full use of it. Ayurveda is a great treasure of herbs and minerals and explains how they are useful to our body. If we follow these simple principles in our life we can maintain health for longer time.
