  1. To Remove the cause of the illness - It is primary step towards preventing the illness. For example - If there is no fire, then no smoke will be produced. Similarly, if there are no bad eating habits or poor lifestyle, then no disease will happen.
  2. To increase the metabolic rate of the body - In Ayurveda, it is assumed that each disease affecting our body arises from malfunctioning of the digestive system due to which toxins (Ama) are produced and cause the illness. We should adopt the measures to improve the metabolic rate of the body so that the food we eat is digested properly and then assimilated in the body.
  3. Detoxification of the body –In Ayurveda, toxin (Ama) is basic cause of illness and should be flushed out of the body through various purification methods like panchkarma. Panchkarma plays important role. It includes snehan, swedan ,vamana, virechana, nasyam, basti and rakta mokshan.
  4. Rejuvenation of the body – Once the whole body is purified and the toxins have been removed, doctor should follow the measures to rejuvenate the body of patient. One can use various strengthening medicines including rasayana.
  5. Rejuvenate the mind of patient – The illness affects the body as well as the mind of the patient. It creates undue tension, anxiety and stress to patient. So, various relaxing techniques should be followed to rejuvenate the mind like yogic asana, pranayama and meditation.

According to Ayurveda, ama (toxins) and ojas kshaya (low immunity) is the major cause of illness. We should focus on enhancing ojas and decrease ama in the body.
