Ayurveda deals with almost every part of present day medical system. It has got specialization courses in medicine, surgery, psychiatry. There are eight components of Ayurveda as mentioned in ancient texts.
1) Kaya chikitsa (Internal medicine) - Cure of diseases affecting the human body.
2) Kaumara Bhritya (Paediatrics) - Treatment of children
3) Shalaya Chikitsa (Surgery) - Removal of any substance which has entered the body (as extraction of darts, of splinters, etc.
4) Shalakya tantra (Eye and E.N.T) - Cure of diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat by sharp instruments
5) Bhutta vidya (Psychiatry) - Treatment of mental diseases.
6) Agad tantra (Toxicology) - Doctrine of antidotes
7) Rasayana and Vajikarna tantra - Doctrine of Elixirs and Aphrodisiac
8) Prasuti tantra (Gynecology and Obstetrics) - Science
